Barcelona deserved more from the game against Atletico Madrid last night in the Copa del Rey and the 4-4 draw was kind to the visitors.

On another night, the Catalans would have scored at least six goals past Los Rojiblancos with the same performance and it is unfortunate that they have nothing to show for the display they put up last night.

A big part of their failure to capitalize, needless to say, falls on Ferran Torres’ poor first half in front of goal as he missed two golden chances to put his side in the driver’s seat.

Torres remembers the missed chances

The Spanish forward was given golden chances to score on two occasions against Atletico Madrid and had only the goalkeeper to beat in both chances.

Taking to his social media after the game, Torres opened up on what he felt was an unfair result and how he was sure the team would be more efficient in front of goal in the reverse fixture.

“This is one of those games where you end up thinking you’ve given everything but the result is different to what you expected,” he began on his Instagram.

He then took the blame for the missed chances on himself and admitted that he should have done better to capitalize on them.

“Each and every one of us, and I’m the first, with those two chances, will have the opportunity to finish the job off in the second leg,” he noted.

Finally, he closed his message by urging the team forward on the remaining games before the reverse fixture against Atletico Madrid.

“Until then we have two other big challenges ahead of us: to stay top of the league and to go through in the Champions League. Let’s go for it!”

Hansi Flick’s decision to give Torres a start was in light of his recent goalscoring form and Robert Lewandowski’s struggles to contribute efficiently.

While the Spaniard may have had an off-day with his finishing, however, his mobility did create chances that would otherwise not be a possibility.
