After having relied on Marc Andre Ter Stegen to protect their goal for the last several years, FC Barcelona are having quite a roller coaster of a year in regards to their goalkeeping position.

The German goalie suffered a serious injury in the initial phase of the 2024-25 season, and Inaki Pena stood up to take his position between the sticks with his injury.

However, Wojciech Szczesny, who had been bought by the Blaugranes following Ter Stegen’s injury, laid a claim to the starting position at the beginning of this year, and since then, Hansi Flick has him locked as his starter in the Catalan team.

But it remains to be seen how Ter Stegen will return from his injury, Szczesny is only a short-term solution at best because of his age, and Inaki Pena’s future at Barcelona is also very uncertain following his fall from grace this season.

Thus, the Catalans are rethinking their strategy for the goalkeeping position for the future, and according to Fichajes, they have already set their sights on the French goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier as their future long-term goalkeeper, as he meets all the requirements set by the Blaugrana club.

The Lille goalkeeper has emerged as one of the best prospects in this position in the last few years, and his performances with the French side have propelled him to a high demand in the European market.

However, signing him will not really be easy as Real Madrid are also reportedly considering him as a possible heir to Thibaut Courtois. Furthermore, the 23-year-old has a contract with Lille till 2027 and his market value is around €30 million. Naturally, Barcelona will try to negotiate a lower fee with the French side for his signing.

But work is seemingly already underway to bring him into the Blaugrana team, as the Catalans have already established contacts with his entourage.
