This summer will not exactly end on a high note for FC Barcelona if they cannot turn their situation around. La Blaugrana have already found themselves stuck in some sticky webs during this summer, but it may only get worse. However, it is still all within the hands of Barcelona themselves to solve their problems.

One of the major issues that continue to stick out for the Catalan club is the signing of new players. Dani Olmo has been the only major acquisition so far, and even his transfer was not received in a completely positive light. With Nico Williams, the man that most Barça fans wanted to see at the club this summer, no longer a viable option, there are some big issues to address.

Barcelona do not want to conclude their summer shopping without acquiring a new left-winger, and according to Mundo Deportivo, they are willing to give up on signing a new defensive pivot as long as they can get a new winger and a fullback. Primarily due to both Marc Casado and Marc Bernal, Barça no longer sees that acquisition of a new pivot to be necessary.

Instead, the club wants to divert its resources towards signing a strong profile on the wing and a reliable fullback. The man whose name continues to be linked the most to a potential move to Barcelona is Rafael Leao, whereas the fullback that the club reportedly wants is Joao Cancelo.

For Leao, Barcelona will undoubtedly have to splash the cash to secure the arrival of one of Europe’s most exciting wingers. Cancelo, on the other hand, is an operation that La Blaugrana can possibly hold off for a little bit longer before making an active attempt at it.

With the likes of Marc Casado, Marc Bernal, Frenkie de Jong, and even Gavi set to be under Hansi Flick’s orders this season, Barcelona believes that the signing of a new defensive midfielder may as well be unwanted and unnecessary. Moreover, with Dani Olmo, Pedri, and Fermin Lopez available as attacking midfielders, many positions are already sorted.

The case of the left-wing and the need of a new fullback, however, is something that Barcelona considers to still be important due to the need of more quality and depth in those specific positions. Only time will tell how the club manage to act on these hopes, but it seems that the transfer window drama concerning Barcelona continues to live on.
