Rotten injury luck continues to plague Barcelona. On Friday, Pedri suffered a knee injury, whilst playing for Spain, that could keep him out for over a month, and now an even worse fate has befallen Ronald Araujo.

Araujo suffered a hamstring injury while playing for Uruguay in their Copa America quarter-final against Brazil. The 25-year-old left the pitch in tears, sparkling fears of a serious injury. Unfortunately, this has proven to be the case, with Javi Miguel reporting that Araujo is expected to be out of action for 6-8 weeks.

It means that Araujo will miss the start of the 2024-25 season, and he could be out until the summer transfer window closes. This could ensure that he does not leave Barcelona, amid strong recent speculation over his future at the club.

This is a bitter pill for Araujo, Hansi Flick and Barcelona to swallow. Araujo is a key player, and his absence at the start of Flick’s tenure will be felt.
