According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Barcelona are interested in signing Feyenoord’s Givairo Read in the summer transfer window. However, the Spanish outfit is set to face stiff competition from Liverpool and a few other clubs.
Givairo Read came through FC Volendam and moved to Feyenoord in the summer of 2023. Since then, he has taken huge strides in his professional career. He has been providing his massive potential with consistently impressive displays.
Red has featured across 27 games in the ongoing campaign, netting once and providing seven assists. He is averaging 0.3 shots, 1.1 key passes, and 0.7 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored).
The Dutchman started his career as a right-winger but shifted to the right full-back role later. Hence, he is extremely good in the attacking aspects of the game. Notably, he has also improved massively defensively and has been able to put solid performances.
Barcelona’s interest in Givairo Read is understandable as they need more bench strength. They have Jules Kounde in the right-back role who has been absolute world-class. However, there is no notable person to take care of the position in his absence.
As the seasons are becoming more hectic, it’s important to have good depth in the squad. Hence, the addition of Read would be a great choice. He is a great talent and has massive potential, which the Spanish outfit can help to bring out.
The 18-year-old has all the qualities to become an asset for a club like Barcelona in the coming years. Under Hansi Flick, he can improve strongly and develop a new perception of the game. However, Liverpool are also keeping tabs on the youngster and could arrive with a real offer amid the uncertainty around Trent Alexander-Arnold.
