Even as uncertainty looms large over the Copa del Rey final between Barcelona and Real Madrid tomorrow, Frenkie de Jong has come out and stated that the Merengues cannot be underestimated despite the Catalans beating them twice this season.

With Real Madrid considering pulling out of the cup final due to their anger at the statements made by match referees Ricardo De Burgos Bengoetxea and Pablo Gonzalez Fuertes, there is a dark cloud hanging over the game at Estadio de La Cartuja.

De Jong looking forward to final

While the situation continues to develop, De Jong spoke to Barça One earlier in the day, discussing his and the team’s mindset heading into the final.

The Dutchman returns to the venue where he won his first title with Barcelona, defeating Athletic Club 4-0 in the final of the Copa del Rey in 2021 at the Estadio de La Cartuja. De Jong had an outstanding performance, scoring a header and providing two assists.

This Saturday, he returns to that same stadium to face Real Madrid in the pursuit of a new title.

“You don’t need more motivation before a Clasico,” said the Dutchman to Barça One.

“I do not think that the last two Clasicos we played – both with convincing victories for us – will influence Saturday’s match, but we are ready, just like they are as well. We will see tomorrow how the match ends,” the footballer continued.

De Jong expressed the feeling of the squad one day before playing the final, saying: “We are looking forward to tomorrow.”

“The situation of both teams does not matter, it is always 50-50. We want to impose our style of play, as always, and we hope to win,” he concluded.
