This past weekend saw Barcelona get dealt with a double blow as both Inigo Martinez and Marc Casado suffered injuries during the game against Atletico Madrid.

The veteran defender’s issue is not very serious and his return is expected to take place in around 2-3 weeks.

As for the midfielder, though, he has suffered a partial ligament tear in his right knee which will sideline him for two months as confirmed by the club.

Initially, it was feared that Casado’s season might be over for good, but with the midfielder’s condition not requiring surgery, there may be a possibility that he could return before the campaign ends.

Marc Casado hopeful

Earlier today, Casado stopped to sign some autographs for fans at the Ciutat Esportiva, when he was asked if he thought he would play again before the season ends.

The 21-year-old La Masia midfielder responded with an affirmative, saying: “I hope so.”

Enjoying his breakthrough season under Hansi Flick, Casado has featured 36 times in all competitions for Barcelona, scoring one and assisting six goals.

Despite the midfielder’s minutes taking a hit in recent weeks, thanks to Frenkie de Jong’s resurgence, Casado remains a key part of Hansi Flick’s setup at Barcelona.

As such, the German tactician and his staff will be hoping to have Casado back available at their disposal for the final weeks of the season.

In his absence, however, the Barcelona manager is likely to turn to Eric Garcia as an alternative in the defensive midfield position.
