As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona intend to offer Wojciech Szczesny a one-year contract extension with the option of a second, but the player himself has admitted that he has yet to make a final decision, leaving the situation delicately poised.

After the high-stakes Clasico at Montjuic, Szczesny gave an honest and emotional interview, revealing that while Barcelona have tabled a renewal offer, he is still contemplating the next step with his family.

“I’m not hiding the fact that I was offered a two-year extension,” Szczesny said. “But I have to decide with my family what’s best for us. I owe it to my family, to my wife, to make these decisions together, so I haven’t made any yet.”

The 35-year-old added a touch of humour and humility: “Most of the decisions about my home are made by my wife, and I’m not at all ashamed of them.

“I usually make the football ones, but it’s a very unusual situation. We were determined to come here for a year to try to achieve our dreams and then return to playing golf.”

His emotional reaction after the Clasico, captured in tears on the Montjuic pitch, was thought to be a sign of a deep connection to the club and its fans. However, those same emotions have now cast some uncertainty on whether his future lies in Barcelona.

Interestingly, sources within the club confirmed the intention to offer a one-year contract with an option for a second. But they also clarified that no final decision has been made on either side.

Despite earlier reports suggesting a deal was virtually done, Szczesny’s comments now indicate that everything is still very much up in the air.

This development adds a layer of complexity to Barcelona’s already sensitive goalkeeping situation. The club is currently wrestling with long-term doubts over Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Furthermore, with youngsters Diego Kochen and Aron Yaakobishvili tied down to new deals, Barça are clearly planning for the future, but remain in need of a reliable presence between the posts in the short term.
