With little over a week remaining before the transfer market comes to a close, Barcelona are desperately looking to sanction the exit of some of their unwanted players, in an attempt to reduce the wage bill.

One of them is Clement Lenglet, who has been closely linked with a loan move to Atletico Madrid. However, the operation is taking some time as Atleti must reduce their own wage bill in order to sign the Frenchman.

Lenglet does not rule out continuity

It is apparent that Lenglet, for his part, is keen on joining Atletico Madrid this summer. He has, after all, knocked back offers from Villarreal, in his bid to join Los Colchoneros.

But as the operation continues to drag on, Lenglet has not ruled out the idea of continuing at Barcelona, if his move to Atletico Madrid collapse, reports Mundo Deportivo.

This comes on the back of complicated negotiations between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, with both clubs yet to reach an agreement.

The Catalans are keen on loaning out Lenglet, but they are unsure how the salary share equation will play out. The defender’s high wages are proving to be a problem.

Lenglet is convinced both clubs will be able to reach an agreement before the end of the month. But in case they don’t, the Frenchman will not consider any other destinations and could thus continue at Barça.

It must be noted that the Catalans had earlier registered Lenglet, meaning he is eligible to play for the club this season.

The Blaugrana, though, would ideally like to offload him, as it would help them secure the registration of new signing Dani Olmo.

In the worst-case event, that Lenglet’s move falls through, Barcelona are likely to try and find a new agreement with the player over a new deal.

Lenglet’s current deal at Barcelona expires in 2026, but the new deal could see his contract lengthened so the player’s salary can be divided more judiciously.
