In many ways, 2024 was a rather bittersweet year for FC Barcelona as it comes to an end. Even with the year coming to its conclusion, there are still several pressing matters that the club must address as well. However, with hints of both joy and sadness, Barcelona definitely had a rather mixed season.
For the men’s team, there were no trophies to show for the efforts that were put in. On the other hand, the Barcelona women’s team had a historic season and ensured almost every single title there was to win both domestically and on the European stage as well.
Moreover, it was a year that saw the team’s coach change from Xavi Hernandez to Hansi Flick. While this change initially went down well with most supporters, even the team’s form on the pitch has started to deteriorate in recent games and it has cost Barcelona dearly in terms of league standings.
However, in a recent talk with SPORT, Barcelona president Joan Laporta highlighted some of his wishes for the upcoming year of 2025. One of his major wishes was for the club to be united in the face of adversity, and for the fans to rally behind the team as well:
“I hope all Barça supporters feel proud of their athletes and stay united.”
He also shared his optimism about hopefully seeing the team back in the Camp Nou before the end of the season. That particular goal of his, however, will likely depend on how Barcelona progresses in the UEFA Champions League and the other necessary methods that would be required to make the transition back to their home stadium.
Lastly, Laporta focused his attention towards the floods that affected those in Valencia and nearby areas, something that is also a goal of the Barça foundation to help the city and affected areas recover from:
“I wish for aid and normalcy to reach everyone affected by DANA.”
After all, both Barcelona and football go beyond just the game itself. However, as of right now, Laporta will be expected to put all his efforts and attention towards securing the conditions needed for the club to be able to register both Dani Olmo and Pau Victor for the second half of the season.
