Just a year after he joined FC Barcelona, midfield heavyweight Ilkay Gundogan has agreed to leave the club before the current summer transfer window closes.

This claim comes from Cadena SER, who report that Barça and Gundogan have come to an agreement for the midfielder to leave after a meeting with manager Hansi Flick.

Both parties on board

Rumours regarding Gundogan’s future have been doing the rounds for weeks together now, but the midfielder and his camp always maintained that he intended to stay at Barcelona and see out his contract which expires in 2025.

However, there have been swift developments over the past few days, with the German international understood to have held talks with Flick about his situation, where he was made aware that he would not be a regular starter in the team.

It has prompted Gundogan to consider his future and now, both he and Barcelona are on board with the idea of him departing the club before the transfer window closes.

With the decision now being made, Barcelona are working with the idea that Gundogan will not be part of the squad once the transfer window has closed.

Now all that remains is for the midfielder to find an offer that interests him and pass it on to the club, who are waiting for the player himself to make a move to facilitate his departure.

So far, Gundogan has not communicated to the club regarding any offers he might have. But reports suggest that he is in contact with his former team Manchester City to explore the possibility of a return.

Meanwhile, as reported earlier today, Galatasaray would be keen on signing him, only on a free transfer.

Furthermore, Al Nassr are also said to be considering a move after being offered the midfielder’s services by Barcelona themselves.

Gundogan’s departure would open the doors for Barcelona to register new signing Dani Olmo in La Liga as well as any other player that they might sign before the window closes.
