In line with their long-standing tradition, FC Barcelona continue to lay a lot of emphasis on youth development. Their activities in this regard have increased significantly in the last few years as the Blaugranes are now not one of the financial powerhouses in Europe, and they are now following a policy of getting their desired youth targets before their values skyrocket.
As a result, the Catalans are constantly linked with the most promising talents emerging anywhere in the world. However, one avenue that has been closed to them for youth talent hunt is the Real Zaragoza academy, which is taking desperate measures to keep its young players leaving for other clubs.
In fact, back in November, the former Barcelona player and current scout, Jon Andoni Goikoetxea, was expelled from the Real Zaragoza Sports City while he was watching some matches.
However, according to Mundo Deportivo, the expelled scout himself explained while talking to the media that the Blaugrana club is not the only one banned from Real Zaragoza facilities, as Real Betis and Real Madrid are also not welcome there. Although he did not name them, some sources claim Villarreal are also banned.
In addition to these clubs, the representation agency Bahia International is also banned, as many of the young talents leaving Zaragoza were represented by this agency.
In addition to their ban from the club’s facilities, another action that Zaragoza have taken that concerns Barcelona is the initiation of a legal action to claim an amount, reportedly €1 million, from the parents of their two former cadet level players, Gorka Buil and Samuel Borniquel, who both had joined the Blaugrana club last summer.
It remains to be seen what the outcome of these actions from Zaragoza will be, but for now, they have closed their doors to Barcelona and other big Spanish clubs to protect their youth talent.
