Despite his good performances this season, FC Barcelona are still concerned about the ability of Robert Lewandowski to continue performing at the level that he has shown up to now as he is already nearing 37 years of age and is surely playing his last few years in top-level football.

As a result, they have been linked with several players who can be the Pole’s long-term replacement going forward, and one the most prominent of these names has been the Canadian striker Jonathan David.

The player himself is quite keen to don the Blaugrana shirt and is willing to make economic sacrifices to be able to do so, in addition to arriving for free. He has already offered himself both actively and passively to the Catalan club’s sporting management.

However, as SPORT has reported, he has not really been able to tempt Barcelona and it is becoming increasingly clear that he is not one of the priorities for the Blaugrana club.

Even though getting David is a market opportunity, the Catalans are not keen to sign him. One reason behind their lack of interest is their priority to address other weak areas in their team, including the left wing.

Furthermore, despite his good performances in Ligue 1 and the UCL, there has never been consensus at the Blaugrana club for his signing, particularly because he leaves some sporting doubts, and needs a lot of space on the pitch to showcase his talents.

Similarly, Ferran Torres has also emerged as a highly capable replacement for Lewandowski this season, which further evaporates the need for David’s signing at Barcelona.

In addition to Lewandowski, who will also be renewed shortly, and Ferran Torres, there are also Pau Victor and Ansu Fati available to play in the center of the attack, even though the future of these two latter players is far from certain.

Meanwhile, the Canadian has not given up on his hopes of playing for the Catalan club, but for now, his most likely destination seems to be the Premier League, where West Ham United are offering him terms that are too good to be refused, while Bayern Munich are also interested in him.
