FC Barcelona is a legendary club that has been home to a number of world-class players over the years who have gone on to revolutionize the sport. Despite all this, the biggest name to have ever been associated with the club, without a doubt, is Lionel Messi.

The Argentinian maestro is the best player to have ever played the sport and his time at Barcelona marked one of the most glorious periods for the club. The only thing that has left a sour taste in the hearts of the fans is how unceremoniously his exit happened.

Everyone expected Lionel Messi to extend his contract and stay at Barcelona, but it appeared in the 11th hour that the club would not be able to extend his stay. This meant that the Argentine forward had to leave for PSG in a move that was all too sudden.

Ever since that moment, there have been numerous times where there have been talks of a return to the Catalan club but Messi has now moved to the MLS to play for Inter Miami where he continues to dazzle with his goals and assists.

A few days ago, it emerged that Messi had claimed that it was his dream to come back to Barcelona and play at the renovated Nou Camp but now, as per journalist Guillem Balague, the 37-year-old World Cup winner has no intention of returning to the club.

The journalist, who is also Messi’s biographer, has revealed that it is extremely unlikely that Messi returns to Barcelona while Joan Laporta is still the president. The duo’s relationship entered choppy waters during his exit saga in 2021.

Messi’s contract with Inter Miami expires at the end of the current season ( December 2025) and it is very likely that he signs an extension with the MLS club. However, Barcelona fans might still continue to hope for a romantic reunion, if at all possible.

The truth be told though, Barcelona have moved on from Lionel Messi and the team has now moved in a different direction. How much he would fit into Hansi Flick’s high-pressing system is a question mark and it will be a huge surprise if this deal happens at all.
