Joshua Kimmich continues to be linked with a move to FC Barcelona, with his contract at Bayern Munich expiring at the end of the season.

The German international has been on the Blaugrana’s radar since Xavi Hernandez’s time as manager and the interest has persisted under Hansi Flick as well, albeit not at the same intensity.

No move for Kimmich

However, now, SPORT reports that Barcelona have ruled out a move for Kimmich despite the notable recent developments with regard to his contract talks with Bayern Munich.

Indeed, negotiations between the 30-year-old midfielder and the Bavarian giants have collapsed. So much so that, Bayern have withdrawn their contract offer after Kimmich hesitated to commit, leaving his future uncertain.

However, Barça have already made their stance clear – even if Kimmich were available on a free transfer, they would not pursue him.

While Barcelona previously explored the possibility of signing the German ace to strengthen the midfield, the Catalans now consider that position well covered.

Flick on board with decision

With Hansi Flick in charge, some expected a renewed pursuit of Kimmich, given their strong relationship from their Bayern days.

However, the Barcelona sporting department has firmly closed the door, believing the midfield is already well-equipped and preferring to trust La Masia talents.

Flick agrees with this decision and wishes for Barça’s limited summer budget to be allocated to strengthen other important positions.

This leaves Kimmich with very few options, with Real Madrid also not considering a move. Manchester City and PSG have shown an interest and could be willing to take a punt.

It is not ruled out that Bayern reopen talks with Kimmich, albeit with lower terms than they were initially offering. But what appears to be certain is that Barcelona will not pursue him.
