Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal is set to undergo a series of tests this morning at Ciutat Esportiva to determine the cause of his right ankle discomfort that prevented him from playing on Sunday against Real Sociedad, reports AS.

The 17-year-old was left out of the starting lineup for last night’s La Liga clash at the Reale Arena.

Barça issued a medical statement one hour before the game announcing Lamine’s absence due to “a contusion” received to his right ankle during the Champions League match against Crvena Zvezda, which caused discomfort that has persisted until now.

The situation was serious enough that Hansi Flick was obliged to withdraw him from the squad at the last moment to prevent further complications, with Lamine having to watch the match from the stands.

Now, Lamine will be undergoing tests today, with the young winger already arriving at the Ciutat Esportiva to be examined by the medical staff.

Once the results are available, they will be promptly forwarded to the national team doctors for evaluation and subsequent decision-making.

The Blaugrana trusts in the good faith and willingness of the national team’s medical staff to avoid the inconvenience of Yamal having to travel for the camp at Las Rojas.

It is not ruled out that the Spanish national team manager, Luis de la Fuente, calls Lamine directly to learn first-hand about the player’s condition and make a decision accordingly.

If RFEF does ask for the presence of the 17-year-old after learning the test results then Lamine will be obligated to travel according to FIFA rules.
