After some serious speculations about his future, Ronald Araujo ended up signing a new long-term contract with FC Barcelona in January.

For a while, it appeared like the 25-year-old defensive stalwart would be on his way out of the Catalan club, especially with Juventus pushing hard to sign him.

In the end, though, Hansi Flick, Deco & co., managed to convince Araujo to stay put and sign a new contract that will keep him tied to the club until the summer of 2031.

Araujo discusses Barcelona contract renewal

Speaking at a recent media appearance, Araujo reflected on his contract renewal, stating that he was always committed to staying at Barcelona despite the speculations and is very happy to have signed a long-term deal.

“I am happy to continue for many more years. I will give my life for this club. I was always very calm and clear about what I wanted. I am happy with how things turned out. I think it is reflected in the years I have signed,” said Araujo, as quoted by Victor Navarro.

It must be remembered that following Barcelona’s Spanish Super Cup triumph against Real Madrid in Saudi Arabia, veteran striker Robert Lewandowski could be seen trying to convince Araujo to continue at the club.

Talking about that moment, the Barcelona captain noted: “I always had it clear but in the end, we were negotiating a contract and we didn’t know how it would happen. Now I feel valued, which is what is important. I was clear about staying.”

As has been reported, Araujo’s new contract renewal comes with a release clause that has been lowered from its previous valuation of €1 billion.

Instead, the new clause is said to be around €65 million, although the figure rises to a mammoth €300-400 million for the big clubs in Europe such as Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Manchester City, and PSG.
