It was Andreas Christensen’s untimely injury and prolonged period out of action that helped Barcelona register Dani Olmo with La Liga and enabled his participation so far this term.

Come January, however, the Danish star is expected to make his return to action while Olmo’s registration runs out, and the latter’s situation has begun to create worry in the Catalan capital.

Joan Laporta and Co. are working hard to ensure that the club bring in as many funds as are required to register Olmo.

A potential sale?

According to Fichajes, the key could well be Christensen once again.

The sports news outlet relays that Newcastle United are increasingly interested in signing the Danish defender, especially after the injury of Sven Botman and see him as a high-quality replacement.

A departure in January, thus, cannot be ruled out as the player will have more regular minutes in the Premier League given the sheer competition under Hansi Flick.

Moreover, his sale will bring in sizeable space on the salary mass and also a decent transfer fee which can help register Olmo for the second half of the season.

Barcelona are not completely against the operation and talks between the two clubs will advance in the coming days. In the end, it will boil down to how much Flick wants the former Chelsea ace in his plans.

Given the team’s recent slump in form and the fatigue overtly visible in players, it is likely that the manager will insist on keeping Christensen until the summer at least.

With Jonathan Tah likely to arrive in July, a sale at that time may be better planning.

After all, there are other methods being spoken of to enable Olmo’s registration including the sake of a part of Barcelona’s VIP seat rights for the new Spotify Camp Nou.
