Barcelona star İlkay Gündoğan reportedly exploring the possibility of Man City return | OneFootball

Plenty of headlines arose yesterday when news emerged that Ilkay Gündogan was left out of the Barcelona side facing Valencia away from home.

Many outlets have speculated about plenty of reasons why the German international would be left out of his side’s season opener, with some speculating that a transfer could be in the works.

As per Mundo Deportivo, quoting the Catalan programme TDT, the midfielder is currently exploring the possibility of returning to Premier League champions Manchester City.

This news comes despite Gündoğan being under contract at the Catalan club until June next year, as well as the fact that plenty of those close to the star have come out to assure that he has no intention of leaving.

The more likely reason for his omission from the Barca squad this weekend is due to a blow to the head he received against Monaco in a pre-season friendly, but stranger things have happened in football.

For now, we’ll have to keep track of the situation to see if these rumours go anywhere, but plenty of eyes will be on Barcelona’s fixture next weekend against Athletic Club, to see if the German midfielder reappears in Hansi Flick’s squad.
