Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong looks increasingly likely to stay put with the club beyond the summer.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who have on Friday provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital.

De Jong, for his part, has spent recent weeks reestablishing himself as an important member of the engine room ranks in boss Hansi Flick’s squad.

Having seemingly put his long-standing injury problems behind him, the Dutchman has produced a number of standout performances, looking close to his brilliant best once more.

And such efforts have evidently not gone unappreciated on the part of boss Flick and his coaching staff.

After it was previously widely reported that De Jong was likely to be on the move this summer ahead of the expiration of his contract in 2026, a complete ‘U-turn’ has been noted.

As per a report from Sport, Hansi Flick is now actively pushing for the 27-year-old to renew his terms.

Barca’s headmaster considers De Jong an integral part of his plans for the future, a perfect fit in the German’s free-flowing football style.

With the player himself having also long made clear that his preference is to remain at the Camp Nou, hope is in turn growing that an agreement over an extension will ultimately be found.
