FC Barcelona understand that they must reinforce their team with the future in mind. While La Blaugrana may already have players who can guarantee success in the short-term, the long-term must also be considered. That is something Barcelona has been negligent about in the past, and it has created some major issues.

Now, however, the Catalan club seems to be much more open to thinking about such issues ahead of time. This will allow them to plan ahead and make sure that they have the resources and allocation to go ahead with certain operations so that last-minute complications can be avoided.

That is why, at this point in time, Barcelona already have their eye on a fair few free agents as well. One position in particular where they would love to sign a free agent is the centre-forward role. Robert Lewandowski remains on fire this season, but he is already at an age where the club must think of life after him.

For that specific role, the name of Canadian forward Jonathan David has come up as a possible option. The 24-year-old Lille forward, as highlighted by SPORT, is a target that Barcelona believe offers both quality and is young enough to be seen as a long-term investment.

Unfortunately, however, his signature will not be simple to acquire. Once his contract ends in the summer of 2025, Barcelona will not be the only club that is expected to make a move for the Ligue 1 star. Instead, a lot of European clubs are also expected to join the hunt as interest in the player remains high.

Clubs such as Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Newcastle United are all the sides from England that are reportedly interested in him. Moreover, Serie A sides Juventus, Inter Milan, and and AC Milan are also reportedly on his trail.

However, it is hardly surprising to see David attract such attention. With 8 goals in 12 matches this season and 92 goals across 105 appearances in total, his statistics speak for themselves. He also happens to be the most valuable striker out of all the strikers expected to be free agents in the summer of 2025.

One of the most exciting strikers in Europe right now, the €50 million-rated Lille star will be a difficult acquisition for Barcelona considering the sheer number of clubs that would be interested in his signature as well. However, if there is one thing always seems to work in the favor of the Catalan club, that would be their pedigree.
