It is no secret that Barcelona have set sights on strengthening their forward line, and according to El Chiringuito TV, Liverpool’s Luis Diaz could be their next big target if their primary option, Nico Williams, becomes unattainable.

Nico, currently playing for Athletic Club, has been a top priority for Barcelona. However, recent developments suggest that this pursuit might be losing momentum.

A video surfaced online showing Nico receiving a new shirt number at Athletic Club, hinting strongly that the young Spaniard might be staying put at his current club.

This development has caused some concern within the Barcelona camp, as they might have to look elsewhere for reinforcements.

Barcelona’s financial struggles have been well-documented, and these issues have made it increasingly difficult for the club to secure top-tier talent.

The ongoing economic challenges mean that even if Nico were available, Barcelona might struggle to finalise the deal. Given this backdrop, the club is wisely considering alternative options, with Diaz emerging as a serious Plan B.

Diaz could be available for €58 million

The Colombian has reportedly garnered significant interest within the Barcelona hierarchy. Club President Joan Laporta is said to have held discussions with his agent in the past, exploring the possibility of his acquisition.

However, for any move to materialise, Liverpool’s approval is crucial. Reports indicate that the English club would be open to selling him this summer if they receive an offer in the region of €58 million.

Interestingly, this figure is very similar to what Barcelona was prepared to offer for Nico Williams, whose release clause stood at €58 million and was set to rise to €62 million.

Nevertheless, the Catalan club is not giving up on finding the right player to strengthen their squad. If the pursuit of Diaz doesn’t materialise, they are also considering Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman as an alternative.
