In a major development, La Liga club Girona are ready to step up their pursuit of FC Barcelona defender Eric Garcia in the January transfer window.
The Montilivi-based outfit’s interest in the former Manchester City starlet has been known for some time now, after he excelled at the club on loan last season.
While a summer move was ruled out by Barça due to injuries to Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen, the defender’s lack of minutes under Hansi Flick has seemingly opened the doors for a January exit.
In fact, journalist Nil Sola is now reporting that Girona are ready to finalise the transfer of Eric Garcia from Barcelona in the coming days for a fee of €10 million, fixed plus variables.

The Catalan club have been eager to bring the versatile Barcelona defender back to the club, with manager Michel, in particular, being intent on working with him again.
After all, Garcia was one of Girona’s top players last season and played an integral role in their qualification for the UEFA Champions League.
The player, for his part, is open to making a switch, especially considering that the impending returns of Araujo and Christensen will further impact his minutes on the field.
As per the report, Girona will press ahead and try to close the deal with Barcelona for Garcia once the Blaugrana have resolved the Dani Olmo and Pau Victor registration mess.
Either way, there is a lot of determination and optimism on Girona’s part to secure Garcia’s signing and a move appears likely, with a transfer fee of around €10 million, including variables, being talked about.
