Wojciech Szczesny continues to impress between the posts for FC Barcelona. Thanks to his outstanding performances, the Polish goalkeeper is making history just four months after starting his tenure as the club’s first-choice keeper.
Signed as an emergency replacement for the injured Marc-Andre ter Stegen in October, the 34-year-old Polish shot-stopper had to wait until January earlier this year for his debut.
Since that point, though, the former Arsenal and Juventus star has not looked back, definitively replacing Inaki Pena as the preferred option in goal during Ter Stegen’s absence.
Since his debut in Barbastro in the Copa del Rey on 4 January, Szczesny has played 22 matches for Barcelona and not lost a single game – recording 19 wins and just three draws.
Those draws came against Atalanta in the Champions League, Atlético Madrid in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-finals, and Real Betis in La Liga.

If he avoids defeat this Wednesday in Dortmund, in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, Szczesny will equal the third-longest unbeaten start in Barcelona history.
That record – 23 matches without defeat – was set by none other than club legend Johan Cruyff during his playing days in the mid-1970s.
At the top of the list sits another club icon in Cesc Fabregas, who went 30 games unbeaten, followed by Brazilian midfielder Paulinho, who managed 25.
In addition to his 22-game unbeaten streak, Szczesny has also kept 12 clean sheets, while letting in only 18 goals at an outstanding average of just 0.81 goals conceded per game.
Given his brilliant performances, Barcelona are all set to extend the goalkeeper’s contract by another season to keep him at the club for one more season until the summer of 2026.
