FC Barcelona’s institutional vice-president, Elena Fort, has publicly criticised a small group of Barcelona fans who displayed a controversial and offensive banner during the club’s UEFA Champions League match in Monaco.

The incident occurred when around 500 Barça fans gathered at the Stade Louis II to support Hansi Flick’s team as they made their Champions League debut. Despite the lively atmosphere and the dedication of the fans, the match was overshadowed by this disturbing act.

The game itself proved challenging for Barcelona, especially after Eric Garcia’s early red card left the team struggling for a foothold. With the Blaugrana under pressure, the travelling fans in the visitors’ section of the stadium did their best to rally the team.

The positive energy in the stands, though, was marred by the appearance of a banner that carried a clear message of support for Nazism.

The banner, which read “Flick Heil,” was a reference to the infamous Nazi salute “Sieg Heil,” a slogan from the dark era of Adolf Hitler’s Third Reich.

Although it seems the offensive banner was only held by a very small group of individuals, it attracted significant attention and criticism. Elena Fort, as one of the club’s spokespersons, did not hesitate to express her outrage.

Taking to her social media account on ‘X’, Fort condemned the actions of those responsible, making it clear that such behaviour would not be tolerated within the FC Barcelona fanbase.

In her post, she wrote: “Unworthy, shameful. Disgusting and sad that someone who claims to love the club acts like this. Everything has a limit. It can never be repeated again. Never again.”

Fort’s public condemnation shows that FC Barcelona are determined to address any unacceptable behaviour from its supporters.

While only a small number of individuals were involved, the incident has caused widespread outrage, both within the club and among fans who value the inclusive and progressive principles that FC Barcelona promotes.
