Barcelona are officially the champions of Spain, after a long-fought battle for almost a year, sealing the title with their win over Espanyol last night.
The Catalan derby, as it has been in recent years, was anything but simple. However, a goal and an assist from Lamine Yamal helped them get over the line and clinch the title.
Needless to say, the team’s success this season is only deserved given how they have been one of Europe’s best teams all season long. While the UCL exit is indeed a blow, their domestic treble is a huge step in the right direction.
Speaking to the media after Barcelona secured the La Liga title with a win over Espanyol last night, the club’s sporting vice president Rafa Yuste opened up on the team’s accomplishment and how he did not expect such grand success with the young team so early.
“I did not expect this brutal result that we have seen with these young boys. You will all agree that it was very difficult.”
“These guys have exploded this year and that has been a very important difference,” he added, explaining how the players stepped up across the field.
Speaking on how La Masia was one of the cornerstones to Barcelona’s success this season, Yuste said,
“Apart from returning joy to partners with success, one of our pillars of the mandate was La Masia. That’s non-negotiable.”

“La Masia is the spine of this club. We have to continue betting on La Masia, but above all having coaches who believe in the players and put them to play,” he elaborated.
He then went on to jovially praise and credit Hansi Flick for all of the team’s success.
“He deserves two Creus de Sant Jordi,” he said, referring to one of the highest civilian honours awarded in Catalonia.
Looking ahead to the next campaign, the club official was asked what Barcelona were looking to change in the summer and what their objective was on the transfer front.
“To maintain what there is because we have a great base.”
Finally, he was asked if any player in particular deserved a special mention for Barcelona’s success, to which he said,
“It is a young team with a touch of veterans and, if anyone has stood out, it is Lamine Yamal.”
