Following a winning start to their La Liga campaign against Valencia, FC Barcelona next take on Athletic Club in their first home game of the season this weekend.

Building up to the game, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is hopeful of having his new signing Dani Olmo available for selection after the Spaniard did not feature against Valencia due to him still being unregistered.

While the Blaugrana hope to register the 26-year-old in time for the visit of the Basque club, they have been handed a fresh boost by the return of another player to training.

Fermin Lopez is back

Indeed, as reported by SPORT, Barcelona youngster Fermin Lopez is back in training after his mini-vacation just in time for the weekend’s clash against Athletic Club.

The 21-year-old has had a dream summer as he won the UEFA Euro 2024 with Spain before helping La Roja grab the gold medal at the Olympics, starring with sensational displays in Paris.

After his double-duty for the national team, Fermin went on a brief vacation to recharge his batteries but is back training at Flick’s disposal today, reports SPORT.

The La Masia gem’s return is a huge boost for Barcelona, especially with Olmo’s registration still not sorted out and the impending departure of Ilkay Gundogan.

An excellent summer for Fermin

As mentioned earlier, it has been the summer of dreams for Fermin Lopez. Having enjoyed a brilliant breakthrough season for Barcelona, during which he scored 11 goals, the youngster earned a call-up to the Spain squad for the Euros.

While he did not get much exposure at the tournament in Germany, Fermin more than made up for it with a series of dazzling displays at the Olympics, scoring six goals in six games, including a double in the finals vs France.

Barcelona have been heavily impressed by the youngster’s displays and are already working on rewarding him with a new contract which would see his wages and release clause amount increase substantially.
