Despite acquiring the services of Dani Olmo earlier in the summer, Barcelona remain on the hunt for a new winger in the final stretch of the transfer window.

At the same time, Barça are also eager to trim the squad in an attempt to reduce the wage bill, which in turn, could help them register the new signings, including Olmo.

Ansu Fati is among the players tipped to leave Barcelona before the transfer window slams shut. But even with a few days remaining, the club have taken up a rather cautious approach.

Barcelona holding on to Fati, for now

According to SPORT, Barcelona are keeping hold of Ansu Fati for now, despite earlier rumours stating he will have to leave.

The Catalans do indeed want Fati to leave the club. But they are not ready to sanction his exit until they find a replacement in the market.

Fati’s initial wish was to continue at Barça and prove himself in front of coach Hansi Flick. But the forward is still nursing an injury, which has muted his progress.

Fati’s agents have options in case the forward has to make a last-minute exit from Barcelona. The likes of Wolves and Benfica have emerged as potential destinations for the forward.

Barcelona, though, are taking a cautious approach and do not want to repeat another Brighton-esque loan spell.

The Catalans would have ideally liked to sell the player on a permanent deal, but that is only possible through a Saudi Arabian club – an option ruled out by the player.

Who are Barcelona’s options?

For a long time this summer, Barcelona’s priority was to sign Nico Williams, but the Spaniard is all set to continue at Athletic Club.

This has compelled the Blaugrana to explore other options in the market. Italian talent Federico Chiesa has emerged as a serious option for Barcelona lately, with the player even willing to lower his wages to join the club.

Rafael Leao is another option for Barcelona, though signing the AC Milan forward could be next to impossible given his high valuation.
