Gerard Martin could be set for a place in Barcelona’s starting XI when they take on Real Sociedad at Montjuic.
According to recent reports from SPORT, it has come to light that the left-back might be given the chance to feature in the lineup as Hansi Flick prepares for some rotations ahead of a crucial midweek fixture.
Barcelona have been going through a demanding period, but the team has been performing well. Flick is pleased with the squad’s efforts and is particularly relieved that, at this stage of the season, there are no muscle-related injuries within the team.
With a challenging match against Benfica at Estadio da Luz coming up, the German coach is considering squad adjustments to keep players fresh.
One significant change could be in defence, where Ronald Araújo is expected to return to the starting lineup.

After being used as a substitute in the last five matches, the Uruguayan defender seems likely to regain his spot from the start.
Another possible rotation could take place at left-back, with Alejandro Balde having played four full matches in succession. Given this, Flick may opt to rest him and hand Gerard Martin a start.
Martin has been steadily integrating into the squad, proving to be a dependable option when called upon. The Barcelona-born full-back, who recently turned 23, has been given opportunities this season and has shown he can offer a solid alternative to Balde.
Unlike the more attack-minded Balde, Martin is a more defensive full-back, strong in duels and disciplined in positioning.
Having recently renewed his contract until 2028, Martin has accumulated 837 minutes across 23 appearances this season. If given the chance to start against Real Sociedad, it could be another step forward in his development under Flick’s guidance.
