Barcelona’s supporters have on Monday provided their collective take on the prospect of the club dipping into the free agent market, to sign a replacement for Marc-André ter Stegen.

This, of course, comes after Ter Stegen was condemned to a long-term spell on the sidelines.

The German international was stretchered out of Barcelona’s La Liga meeting with Villarreal on Sunday, subsequently confirmed to have suffered a complete rupture in the patella tendon in his right knee.

Ter Stegen, in turn, was forced under the knife this afternoon, expected to be ruled out for the remainder of the season as a result.

This development has left those behind the scenes at the Camp Nou with something of a decision to make, when it comes to the club’s options between the posts.

Deco and co. could now seek out reinforcements, by way of the free agent market.

The alternative is to bet on no.2 Iñaki Peña, alongside the club’s academy options, until at least January, when they will be afforded the chance to enter the market proper.

And, if the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, then Barcelona’s fans appear to be of the opinion that betting on Peña is the best option.

Diario Sport held a survey for the Blaugrana faithful on Monday, outlining the club’s three goalkeeper options moving forward.

And the results received were as follows:

  • 37% back the trio of Peña, Astralaga and Kochen to hold down the fort for the season
  • 32% are in favour of waiting until January, to sign a new starting-calibre goalkeeper
  • 31% would like to see a free agent goalkeeper arrive now
