According to kicker, Bayer Leverkusen are the latest club to register their interest in Liverpool centre-back Sepp van den Berg.

It had previously been reported that Die Werkself would be willing to allow Odilon Kossounou to depart this summer, should the price be right.

With Crystal Palace interested in luring the defender to the Premier League as a replacement for Marc Guéhi, it is believed they would have to offer the German champions €40 million for his services.

This would make a deal unlikely to happen, but if Palace were to make Kossounou their record transfer, then Die Werkself would need to find a replacement.

As stated in the report, Leverkusen would then enter the race to sign van den Berg from Liverpool, who has attracted attention from the Bundesliga this summer.

Mainz have attempted to bring the Dutch defender back to the club, but with Liverpool holding out for €20 million, they have been unable to reach an agreement.

This has led to the 05ers hoping for van den Berg to force a move out of Anfield, but should Xabi Alonso’s side make their interest concrete, then it is believed that they would match Liverpool’s demand, something Mainz will not be able to do.
