Sport Bild (via @Bayer04Xtra) reports that Bayer Leverkusen are hopeful that Xabi Alonso will stay at the club beyond this summer, despite being linked with a move to Real Madrid.
Fernando Carro and Simon Rolfes sense that Alonso is not finished with his time at Leverkusen, the former is also convinced that the former midfielder will stay.
At the BayArena, he is a key figure in deciding the direction of the club alongside Carro and Rolfes and there is little politics going on behind the scenes, unlike at Madrid. On top of this, Alonso is already involved in planning the squad for next, which includes Florian Wirtz. The 21-year-old staying at Leverkusen with his impending contract extension could also help keep Alonso at the BayArena.
Another factor that could influence Alonso’s staying at Leverkusen is his family. His family are comfortable in Germany and due to the age of his children, the Spaniard would prefer to make a decision on his future in the spring again, like last year, instead of in July.
The future of current Madrid head coach Ancelotti is still uncertain. The Italian has a contract at the Bernabeu until 2026, and if Madrid win at least La Liga this season then he will likely be allowed to continue until the expiry of his contract.
