Two goals from Leon Goretzka helped fire Bayern Munich to a narrow 3-2 win over Wolfsburg, sending the Bavarian giants seven points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table.
The hosts have seen champions Bayer Leverkusen step their game up in recent weeks, seemingly determined to retain the crown they won last season by going undefeated.
Bayern started the game on the front foot and were rewarded for their endeavour 20 minutes in when Goretzka, back in favour after a spell out of the side, advanced unchallenged towards Wolfsburg's penalty area before rifling a low shot beyond the grasp of Kamil Grabara.
But that joy was short-lived as a dozing Michael Olise allowed Mohamed Amoura to curl home past Manuel Neuer four minutes later.
The former Crystal Palace playmaker more than made up for his lapse in concentration five minutes before the break, restoring Bayern's lead with more than a helping hand from Grabara. Olise skipped past a couple of challenges outside of Wolfsburg's penalty area, and his shot should have easily been dealt with by the Polish goalkeeper. But he somehow let the skimming effort squirm out of his grasp, rolling tamely over the line.
Joshua Kimmich had a third ruled out by VAR before half-time, but it didn't matter as Bayern extended their advantage just the hour-mark. Olise whipped a delicious free-kick into Wolfsburg's box, where an onrushing, and unmarked, Goretzka guided home a header off the inside of Grabara's post.
Bayern had 25 shots in total, ten of which were on target, but they threatened to undermine their supremacy by letting Wolfsburg back into the game in the dying embers.
Tiago Tomas' wonderful jinking home, which should really have halted by a tactical Bayern foul, allowed Amouri to pull away from Dayot Upamecano, and he arced another clinical finish beyond Neuer to set up a grandstand finale.
Bayern did hold on, though, seeing out the game to record to their 14th win of the season.
