Bayern Munich have announced that they have parted way with their sponsor Qatar Airways after a five-year working relationship. Despite talks for the continuation between the two, both Bayern and Qatar Airways have amicably agreed to end the partnership.

“FC Bayern Munich and Qatar Airways have worked together successfully and learned from each other. For that I would like to thank Akbar Al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways. We wish all Qatar Airways employees all the best for the future,” commented Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen.

Akbar Al Baker added: “It has been a fruitful collaboration over the years. FC Bayern Munich is a great football club whose games we watched with joy and passion. We wish the team all the best for the future.”

Despite Bayern looking to continue the partnership, Bayern supporters will be thankful that the relationship between the two has finally come to an end. Due to the controversial Human rights situation in the country, there have always been banners around the Allianz Arena against the involvement with Qatar’s state airline.

For example, in September 2022, the South Curve came out with a banner that stated: “State visits, training camps, thousands of dead for World Cup celebrations. Only your own conscience is better off, Uli H.!”

The airline has been Die Rekordmeister’s official partner since July 2018, where it has generated €25m a year for the club. Nothing is currently known as to whether Bayern will look for a potential successor to the airline.
