Bayern Munich defender Josip Stanisic will be out of action for several weeks after tearing a collateral ligament in his right knee in training on Monday.
“Josip had surgery this morning and unfortunately, he will out for the coming weeks. We wish him a speedy recovery,” said Max Eberl.
Stanisic completed the full 90 minutes in Bayern’s 4-0 win over Ulm in the DFB-Pokal just four days ago.
The 24-year-old was in contention start in the right-back position ahead of Bayern’s opening Bundesliga fixture against Wolfsburg on Sunday.
Sacha Boey could replace him whilst Joshua Kimmich and Konrad Laimer are also options to operate in that role.
Leroy Sane was able to complete parts of the team training session on Monday.
The winger took part in the warm up and some exercises with his team mates before continuing his individual recovery programme.
Sane had to have an operation on his groin following Euro 2024 and now continues to work on his return to action.
Vincent Kompany’s side continue their preparation for the upcoming Bundesliga season with a friendly against Grasshoppers today.
