The winter transfer window has been quiet for Bayern Munich as expected, but they are certainly looking to strengthen their attack. Along with interest in Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku, De Roten are also keen on one of the bright attacking players in Ligue 1.
Bayern Munich are interested in signing Rayan Cherki of Olympique Lyon. According to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sport, Bayern are among several top European clubs closely monitoring the situation of the talented 21-year-old attacking midfielder.
While not an official release clause, there is an informal agreement between Lyon and the player that he would be let go if an interested club pays €22.5 million. For a player of Cherki’s talent and potential, that fee could be an absolute bargain. Naturally, Bayern are not the only club plotting a move for the player; the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, and Liverpool are also interested in acquiring the gifted Frenchman.
Cherki is in the midst of an amazing campaign with Olympique Lyon. He has registered five goals and eight assists across all completions this season. The talented Frenchman boasts some of the best numbers in Ligue 1 when it comes to playmaking metrics. With eight big chances created in the league, he is the main orchestrator of Lyon’s attack.
At Bayern, Cherki can provide valuable depth as Jamal Musiala’s backup in the attacking midfield role. Additionally, he can be deployed as a winger on either side of the field, as he has been used frequently at Lyon. His versatility in attack, vision to play incisive passes, and exceptional dribbling skills could heavily bolster Bayern’s offensive unit.
While Bayern are interested in Rayan Cherki for a winter move, it is possible that he could end up being a candidate for the summer transfer window. A January move for the 21-year-old would be unlikely if Matthys Tel ends up staying at Bayern. Tel has attracted interest from Premier League side Chelsea and Roberto De Zerbi's Olympique Marseille. However, as of now, there have been no strong indications that he would be willing to leave the Bavarian club.
Should Tel depart, it would create space for another attacking player, potentially filled by his France U-21 teammate, Rayan Cherki.
With less than two weeks remaining until the winter transfer window closes, a final decision regarding Mathys Tel is expected soon. Meanwhile, Bayern face the risk of losing out on Rayan Cherki, as other interested clubs could swoop in and secure his signature for a measly transfer fee.
