Alphonso Davies, for long, has been a priority target for Real Madrid and heading into 2025, the stars seem to be aligned for the Canadian left-back to finally make his way to the Spanish capital club.

After all, the 24-year-old’s contract at Bayern Munich expires at the end of the season and a free transfer to Los Blancos appears to be on the cards, despite there being interest from Barcelona and Manchester United.

Bayern Munich still not giving up

However, according to AS, Bayern Munich are stirring the pot and are making an attempt to complicate matters, generating uncertainty around the ‘Davies Operation’.

As per the report, Davies has already agreed on the terms of his contract with Real Madrid months ago. However, the deal has not been signed yet because it cannot be until 1st January. This is where the issue lies.

In Munich, they are signalling that they are preparing a “final effort” to try to convince the 24-year-old to renew his contract. They warn that this story is not yet closed.

Although Real Madrid are remaining calm, there is a certain level of concern, although they are confident that they have done their job and it is now a matter of trusting Davies to hold up his end of the bargain and wait until January 1.

What’s the latest on negotiations with Bayern?

Davies has not renewed his contract because Bayern have never met his financial demands. Initially, the player requested a salary of €20 million gross, which caused an uproar in Bavaria and nearly led to a breakdown in negotiations.

Since then, Davies has lowered his demands to €15 million gross wages, plus a €15 million signing bonus. It is a significant amount of money, but less than his previous demand. The positions are still far apart, but there is still time.

Bayern Munich offered him €13 million at one point and later moved closer to €14 million. Though they have not reached an agreement, they are getting closer.

Inside the Allianz Arena, there are discussions about making that final “effort”, particularly after personal relations have settled and verbal understandings have become easier.

The ball is now in Davies’ court. Real Madrid have done their part, and now all they can do is wait. They are counting the days until 1st January, when they will be able to proceed with the operation without any obstacles.

In the meantime, Bayern Munich are making their final efforts to convince the player.
