Bayern Munich chiefs have started working on squad planning for next season as we approach the final weeks of the season. Along with new signings, Bayern also want to extend the contracts of a couple of senior players in the squad who will be free agents in the summer.

Leroy Sane is one of the few players in the squad who have less than two months left on their contracts. The German winger has enjoyed his best Bundesliga campaign in terms of goals under Vincent Kompany this season. Sane consistently reiterated his desire to stay in Munich beyond the ongoing season.

Sane and Bayern held positive talks over a new deal over the past few weeks. It always seemed like a matter of when, not if, Sane would put pen to paper on a new contract. However, there have been significant developments in the past couple of days that have completely flipped the situation.

The German winger left his old agent to join Pini Zahavi. The experienced agent will look to renegotiate the terms of the previously agreed contract. Bayern will have to negotiate once again to reach an agreement with Sane.

Zahavi is a tricky agent to deal as Bayern experienced during the departure of Robert Lewandowski. According to SportBild, Bayern have given Sane 10 days to make a decision on his future. There is no appetite from Bayern chiefs to improve their existing contract offer.

Arsenal and Chelsea emerge options for Leroy Sane

Bayern remain a concrete option for Leroy Sane, but signing for Zahavi certainly opens opportunities to explore a move to other big clubs in Europe. According to Sport1 (via iMiaSanMia), initial contact with Arsenal and Chelsea has already been made for a potential deal to sign Sane on a free transfer.

It will be a massive shame if Bayern end up losing Sane after his best season in the Bavarian colours. However, the club chiefs are justified in sticking with their offer and not making an exception by renegotiating the terms. Considering the big contract renewals of Joshua Kimmich, Jamal Musiala, and Alphonso Davies, Bayern are in a sticky position with the wage structure.

Bayern certainly want to strengthen the wide positions in the summer, but the departure of Sane may force them to look for an extra attacker. Serge Gnabry may end up staying at the club if Sane leaves on a free transfer. Bayern are open to hearing offers for Gnabry, but they would not like to lose so much experience in the wide positions. Kingsley Coman is also expected to leave in the summer.
