Bayern Munich: Top three performers in 3-0 win against Bayer Leverkusen

On Wednesday night, Bayern Munich hosted Bayer Leverkusen in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 clash. In the three previous meetings between the sides, Bayern had not tasted success. The sides had drawn both Bundesliga encounters (1-1 in Munich and 0-0 in Leverkusen). In the other encounter between the clubs, Leverkusen edged Bayern 1-0 to knock them out of the DFB-Pokal after Bayern were reduced to ten men when Manuel Neuer was given marching orders.

Considering how close the scorelines were in the previous three encounters this season, Wednesday’s margin of victory would have been pleasantly surprising to the Bavarian faithful.
