The R's are looking to make huge steps this season.

Key Takeaways

  • With Marti Cifuentes at the helm, QPR is no longer a candidate for relegation - playing more aggressively and hard to beat.
  • QPR's potential signings of Owen Beck and Adama Sidibeh can strengthen the team, with Beck being a priority choice at left-back.
  • The Welsh youth international Beck is on QPR's radar for a loan move, while Sidibeh has garnered interest from multiple clubs after a strong start in St Johnstone.

Queens Park Rangers' hopes for this season will be that they can push themselves out of the constant relegation battle they have found themselves in over the past few years.

When a team is in the heart of that storm for so long, it feels like it's only a matter of time before they drop. But, with Marti Cifuentes at the helm, this team no longer feels like a candidate for the drop.

He got this team to be hard to beat, but not in the usual negative way, sitting back and defending for their lives. He's got this side to be much more aggressive when on the ball, trying to starve the opposition of possession.

They've made some good signings so far, ones like Karamoko Dembélé that should excite the supporters, but their window shouldn't be finished there. QPR should still make a couple of moves before the deadline hits on August 30th, specifically these two.

Owen Beck

Liverpool full-back Owen Beck has been on watchlist of the R's for most of the summer, according to reports. He was linked with a loan move to West London by Anthony Joseph, and the reports connecting him with a link-up with Cifuentes have gotten stronger and stronger.

Other clubs like Leeds United and Celtic are said to be interested in the 22-year-old, who spent the majority of last season on loan at Dundee FC.

Most recently, it was reported by Dave Ockop that German side Mainz had entered the race for Beck, but he added that QPR were still very interested in acquiring the player.

Darren Witcoop has previously said that the Welsh youth team international is the number one choice at left-back for the R's, who are trying to bolster this part of their team.

Given the signs he's shown at his young age, it's definitely a move that QPR should be looking to make in the final weeks of the season, especially with Liverpool's new willingness to let the youthful members of their squad go elsewhere.

Adama Sidibeh

Like with Beck, QPR aren't the only horse in this race for Adama Sidibeh. Representatives from Loftus Road, as well as Norwich City and Wigan Athletic, reportedly went to watch Sidibeh play for Scottish side St Johnstone against Rangers on Saturday. He started up front, played the whole game and got booked.

Swansea City, who had previously submitted a bid for the £500,000-rated 26-year-old, according to Alan Nixon, were not part of the teams looking at him on that day, but they must be considered to still be in the race too.

As well as all the other aforementioned team names, Burnley, Derby County and Middlesbrough were reported by Football Insider to have made approaches for the Gambian international.

Sidibeh made a fairly electric and surprising start to life with St Johnstone after making the switch from Warrington Rylands, who play in step seven of the English football system, in the winter transfer window. He netted five times in 15 games in the Scottish Premiership.

A move for the player would be a bit of a gamble, given the lack of performance at a high level over an extended period. But, with the options that QPR currently have in forward areas, a punt on Sidibeh may be worth taking.
