Youssouf Fofana will soon be unveiled as a new Milan player, and Matteo Moretto explains how Rossoneri director Geoffrey Moncada persuaded the French midfielder to sign, beating other European giants to the deal.

Fofana underwent medical tests with Milan on Saturday morning and will soon be unveiled at a press conference.

Fonseca says Milan transfer window ‘closed’ after latest signing and drops Kalulu hint

Many European clubs had been linked with a move for the 25-year-old, and according to Sky Sport Italia, even Manchester United was on the verge of sending an ‘important’ offer to the French midfielder.

However, Milan had been working for a long time on the player’s side and the silent work in the background from director Moncada allowed the Rossoneri to secure the player’s signature.

Football Italia transfer expert Matteo Moretto explained in his column for Caught Offside’s Daily Briefing that Fofana has an excellent relationship with Moncada, who already wanted to sign the midfielder when he was a Strasbourg director.

Moncada immediately convinced Fofana to join Milan, so the player didn’t even sit down to listen to offers from other clubs.

“Thanks to this relationship, Milan managed to secure Fofana on a more personal level,” said Moretto.

Fofana agreed to personal terms with Milan months ago. The French midfielder will earn around €3m per season at San Siro, while the final transfer fee for Monaco is €23m plus €2m add-ons.
