Belgian Pro League 2024/2025 Preview: Charleroi | OneFootball

It was a thoroughly disappointing season for Charleroi last season as they ended up in the bottom four. Thankfully, Rik de Mil was able to keep them in the league and there is hope that after a number of poor seasons in a row, the former Westero and Club Brugge man can help bring the good times back to the club.

Overview:

This summer has been the big overhaul that Charleroi have probably been needing for some time. While they will certainly miss the likes of Ilaimaharitra and Herve Koffi, they have added younger players to the squad. Some of the football they played under de Mil at the back end of the season was entertaining and hopefully he will be able to blood the new players with those that he liked from last season. Somehow Adem Zorgane remains at the club, but there are expectations that the talented Algerian will move on before the transfer window closes.

Scoring goals is the biggest concern for Charleroi. Without signing a new forward, they will hope that one of the five strikers that have been brought in during varous windows in the past two seasons will finally come good. All are under the age of 25, so there is still time. The likes of Daan Heymans and Parfait Guiagon could really blossom in de Mil’s attacking system that requires plenty of movement and interchanging of positions amongst the frontline. Charleroi fans will just hope for entertainment and a finish outside of the bottom four.
