A splendid performance by Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid ensured they did not face any challenges in overcoming Mallorca in the Spanish Super Cup final.
Mallorca were complacent and recorded just 8 shots as compared to Madrid’s 28 in the match.
Here is how the Real Madrid players fared against Mallorca.
Player ratings:
Thibaut Courtois: 6.5
An easy night for the Belgian. Had 8 attempts at his goal but neither was on target and he did not have to make any saves during the night.
Lucas Vazquez: 7.5
Was a good game from the captain who was decent in defence and was not challenged much. Assisted Rodrygo’s goal in injury time.
Aurelien Tchouaméni: 7.0
Another good shift in defence from the Frenchman. Made 5 clearances, 1 interception and won all his duels. Had to be subbed off due to a collision in the 55th minute.
Antonio Rüdiger: 7.5
The perfect partner for Tchouameni on the night and both complimented each other perfectly. Kept the tough Vedat Muriqi quiet throughout the match.
Ferland Mendy: 7.0
Easily one of the Frenchman’s best matches of the season. Kept his marker quiet and did not go up the field much. Won 5/5 duels and made 3 clearances as well.
Eduardo Camavinga: 7.5
Usual day at the office for him. Offered good work rate offensively and defensively. Had 5 attempts at goal which might be a personal record. Made a couple of key passes to cap off a solid night.
Fede Valverde: 7.0
Decent game from the Uruguayan. Did not overdo stuff in the midfield. Won 3/3 duels, made clearances, tackles and interceptions also.
Jude Bellingham: 9.0
Being speechless after witnessing his performances has become the new normal now. We have seen a completely different Jude since November. He is at the tip of Madrid’s press – just behind Mbappe – and even still manages to put in a decent defensive shift. Made 4 key passes, 1 big chance created and scored an almost impossible goal with 4 players on the line other than the goalkeeper. Man of the Match.
Rodrygo: 8.5
After a poor start to the year, he made up with this performance. Hit the woodwork which ultimately set up Jude’s goal. Was served a peach of a cross by Vazquez in injury time and deservedly scored his 6th goal of the season.
Kylian Mbappe: 7.0
Unfortunately did not end up on the scoresheet despite having several chances to do so. Made some great runs on his own too but his decision making in the final third let him down. Was kind of “Benzema-esque” with his off the ball movement as it helped create chances for the side.
Vinícius Júnior: 7.5
Was a threat from the word go. Involved in a fierce battle with Pablo Maffeo, ultimately ending up on the winning side. Made 3 key passes and missed a huge chance.
Substitutions:
Raul Asencio: 8.0
What an outing for the youngster. Played just 35 minutes but made sure to make life miserable for the Mallorca players. Won 2/2 duels, a couple of tackles and interceptions and made some eye catching passes into the final third too. Showed shades of Sergio Ramos too at the end of the match.
Dani Ceballos: 7.0
Went along his merry ways. Not as physical as Valverde but offered control and calmness in tight spaces.
Brahim Díaz: 7.0
Had a 10-minute cameo but made sure to leave an impression. His pass led to the own goal and for the third goal, took the throw in quickly
