Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer could be ruled out for up to three months after picking up an injury during training while away on international duty with Algeria, according to the latest updates.
Algeria released a statement confirming that Bennacer had picked up an unspecified physical issue after a recent training session, and that he is set to return to Milanello for further assessment and treatment.
Algeria were training ahead of an AFCON qualifier away against Liberia scheduled for Tuesday evening. The team had been training on an artificial pitch, as they are also due to play on an artificial surface in Paynesville on Tuesday.
Reports from Sky Sport Italia suggest that Bennacer has suffered a third-degree tear to his calf, which will likely keep him out of action for three months.
Due to the nature of the injury, it will take around six weeks just for the muscle to heal, before there can be any sort of physical training on that leg.
In the best case, the 26-year-old could be available in around two-and-a-half months’ time, according to Sunday evening’s update.
Bennacer will definitely miss upcoming matches against Venezia, Liverpool and Inter over the next two weeks, and could also miss Serie A clashes against Napoli, Juventus and Atalanta, as well as games against Bayer Leverkusen, Club Brugge and Real Madrid in the Champions League over the coming months.
