Beşiktaş centre-back Romain Saïss (33) is set to sign for Qatari side Al-Sadd, according to a report from Foot Mercato. The 33-year-old Morocco international was entering his final year of contract with the Istanbul-based club. The former Wolverhampton man previously signed a two-year deal with Beşiktaş one year ago on a free transfer. Saïss wanted to move on and several Ligue 1 clubs, including Marseille and Northern rivals Lille OSC and RC Lens, were interested in his signing.
The AS Valence academy product chose instead to sign for Qatar Stars League outfit Al-Sadd. The Doha-based outfit finished the past campaign on third place. The French publication understand that Al-Sadd have thrashed out a deal with Beşiktaş worth €2.5m and performance-related bonuses. Saïss is set to sign a three-year deal with Al-Sadd. The Qatari side have also signed Colombian international midfielder Mateus Uribe (32) from FC Porto during this summer’s transfer window.
