A report in the Italian press argues the hectic schedule and hardworking ethics are finally beginning to catch up with Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez.
The 27-year-old enjoyed a fantastic 2023/24 season with the Nerazzurri. He led the club towards the coveted second star while finishing the campaign as the Serie A top goalscorer and the league’s MVP.
However, the Argentine wasn’t able to have a proper summer vacation to recharge his batteries.
The striker played a vital role in the Albiceleste’s triumphant Copa America campaign before getting a few weeks off.
Nevertheless, he agreed to interrupt his brief vacation when Inter asked him to return slightly earlier than expected following Mehdi Taremi’s injury in early August.
Sadly for Lautaro, has been far from his best since the start of the season. For instance, he has yet to score a goal in five competitive fixtures across all competitions.
According to Il Corriere dello Sport via FcInterNews, Martinez is paying the price for his workaholic nature.
The Nerazzurri captain leaves it all on the pitch in every single encounter either for Inter or Argentina.
Hence, the Roman newspaper argues this mentality, coupled with a lack of rest and recurring flights, has now taken its toll on the player’s body.
Therefore, the 2022 World Cup winner now appears exhausted and unable to find his optimal form.
The source reveals Simone Inzaghi could thus decide to rest him for tomorrow’s Serie A clash against Udinese.
Instead, the Inter manager could resort to Taremi alongside Marcus Thuram.
In the meantime, the Nerazzurri faithful will be hoping to see Martinez reconcile with the net as soon as possible.
