Starting his career in his native Chile, Jean Beausejour joined Universidad Católica during his youth career, before progressing to play for the club at first-team level when he was 18 years old.

With game time for the young wing-back proving to be rather scarce, Beausejour then joined Universidad de Concepción on loan for what remained of that campaign.

Ahead of the 2005/06 season, Beausejour head to Brazil and joined Gremio in Serie B, helping his side to ensure top-flight status the following year.

A not-so-successful move to Europe then followed, with Gent becoming his next destination, but he was unable to pave his way into the first team set up with the Belgian outfit.

He then headed back to Chile, joining Cobreloa, and after 22 appearances he then signed for O’Higgins.

Ahead of the 2009/10 season, the left wing-back travelled north to Mexico, joining America.

Beausejour was then signed by Premier League club Birmingham City ahead of the 2010/11 season, with the defender signing for an undisclosed fee.

During the early stages of his Birmingham career, he was described by The Mirror as “at the heart of everything good about Birmingham”, and assisted twice during his first start for the club.

The Blues were relegated from England’s top-flight at the end of that campaign, however, it was a strong start to English football from Beausejour.

Operating as a winger with Birmingham, the Chilean international scored once and assisted a further four for The Blues during their Championship campaign, but by January, he was handed another Premier League chance with Wigan Athletic.

In 16 appearances with The Latics that season, Beausejour provided seven assists.

The following Premier League campaign, he chipped in with a goal and nine assists, and the season after he was back in the Championship, scoring twice and assisting two.

Departing England for Chile after the 2014 World Cup, Beausejour joined recent Chilean champions Colo-Colo and spent two years there.

His next destination turned out to be Universidad de Chile, with the 37-year-old spending five years with the club, before he signed for Primera B side Coquimbo Unido this year.

Playing at left-back, he is yet to contribute with any goals or assists, but he has been a vital part of his team’s season thus far.
