The German shot-stopper is the next in a long line for Rovers' search for a new goalkeeper, according to a report from journalist Alan Nixon, following last season's 74 goals conceded in the Championship.

Eustace is continuing to keep John Ruddy - who has only recently moved to Newcastle United as a backup option - in his mind, with Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford potentially back on the Magpies' transfer radar and pushing the veteran even further down the pecking order.

Nixon's report is also suggesting that Eustace may have to turn to Leicester City's Daniel Iversen, who is available for a fee of around £1.6 million, but would come with high wages.

29-year-old Schwabe, however, is the newest name on Blackburn's list of goalkeeper targets, and he is reportedly available for a transfer following Koln's relegation from the Bundesliga last season.

After Eustace's impressive start to the season at Blackburn, with four points out of a possible six in the Championship, Rovers are looking to strengthen their goalkeeping department.

With 74 goals shipped last season, Rovers didn't have the best of times keeping the ball out of the back of the net, with both Aynsley Pears and recently sold Leopold Wahlstedt contributing to multiple mistakes.

Schwabe has been at Koln for three seasons following his move from Danish side Brondby in the summer of 2021.

Koln experienced a troubling season in 2023-24, as they experienced relegation back to the 2. Bundesliga after their five-year stay at the top table in Germany came to an end.

Schwabe hasn't been in the squad for their opening two fixtures this season, in which 21-year-old Jonas Urbig has taken his place, indicating a move away from Cologne could be on the cards.

Last season, Schwabe played all 34 matches in the Bundesliga as part of a team that shipped 60 goals in that time, but he could be set for a fresh start in England if Rovers step up their interest.

The goalkeeper has impressed at times during his three-year spell in Koln, and had the experience of European competitive football in 2022/23 playing in the Europa Conference League, being narrowly knocked out in the group stage.

Schwabe is already a winner from his time in Denmark, winning the Superliga in the 2020/21 season playing a vital role with 32 appearances to his name.

Eustace will know the success that the stopper has had and will surely now be keen to add Schwabe, considering his availability and strong experience in winning a title, which could help Rovers in a potential promotion bid this season after a strong start.
