Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has been hoping to get a couple key defenders back to fitness in time for the Supercoppa Italiana next week.

Inter fly to Saudi Arabia next week. They take on Atalanta in the Supercoppa semifinal and then could face either Juventus or AC Milan in the final.

Naturally, Inzaghi will want a strong squad available.

However, the Nerazzurri coach will have to do without a couple notable names in defense.

Benjamin Pavard & Francesco Acerbi Pull Out Of Inter Supercoppa Squad

Benjamin Pavard and Francesco Acerbi have both been absent for several weeks. In both cases, the cause is a thigh strain.

Acerbi picked up his injury in a Serie A match against Hellas Verona last month.

Pavard, meanwhile, suffered his injury during a Champions League clash with RB Leipzig.

Pavard and Acerbi had been pushing to return to fitness in time for the Supercoppa.

However, reports Sky, neither will be able to do so. Both will stay back while the rest of the squad travels to Saudi Arabia.

Therefore, Sky reports, Inter are hoping to get Pavard and Acerbi back in time for next month’s Serie A match against Venezia.

On the other hand, reports Sky, there is no doubt that Matteo Darmian will be part of the Inter squad for the Supercoppa.
