Lazio have reportedly tabled a bid for Reda Belahyane but it fell short of the new price tag set by Hellas Verona.
The two clubs will lock horns at the Bentegodi Stadium on Sunday, but they have been embroiled in negotiations for the 20-year-old midfielder for quite some time. The two clubs have shared an excellent rapport over the years, but their ‘alliance’ could be in jeopardy as departing Verona president Maurizio Cetti has now sold his majority shares in the club to American investors.
According to La Lazio Siamo Noi, the ownership change at Verona could spell trouble for Lazio, as the new management is less keen on offloading their biggest assets compared to the cash-strapped Setti. Hence, the Gialloblu have rejected an offer from the Biancocelesti who tried to sign Belahyane on loan with an option to buy for €15 million.
As the source explains, Verona do not wish to deprive themselves of the French Morrocan’s services for anything less than €20 million, a figure that Lazio president Claudio Lotito could be reluctant to spend.
Belahyane rose to the scene at OGC Nice before being poached by Verona last January for less than €1 million. The deep-lying playmaker made his Serie A debut under Marco Baroni, but saw little playing time last season as he was still adjusting to life in Italy. Nevertheless, the youngster has been one of the best revelations in the league this term after cementing himself as a regular starter in Paolo Zanetti’s team.
